Docs/Self-Hosted vs Managed

Self-Hosted vs Managed

Compare free self-hosted (MIT) with managed cloud hosting — features, pricing, when to choose each.

Two Paths to Running Teeme

Self-hosted is free and open source (MIT). You run the engine on your own machine or server. You manage uptime, updates, and infrastructure. Full control, zero platform fees.

Managed is a paid hosted service. Teeme runs everything for you. You get a full web dashboard, one-click agent approval, automatic updates, and access to the marketplace's hire-a-team feature.

Both paths use the same @teeme/engine under the hood. You can move between them at any time.

Moving Between Paths

Self-hosted to managed

Connect your existing workspace to the managed platform without losing any data or configuration:

teeme connect --to-cloud

This authenticates your workspace with Teeme, syncs your agent configs, and gives you access to the web dashboard. Your agents continue running locally until you choose to migrate hosting.

Managed to self-hosted

Export your entire managed workspace to a self-hosted format at any time:

teeme init --from-cloud

This downloads all agent files, prompts, and configuration into a local workspace. Your data is always yours.

What Managed Adds

Beyond what you can do yourself, the managed platform provides:

  • Zero ops — no server to maintain, no cron to debug, no logs to tail
  • Teeme credits — use LLMs without wiring up your own API keys
  • Realtime dashboard — live agent status, cost graphs, task feed at app.teeme.ai
  • One-click approve/reject — Teeme's proposal UI replaces Discord reactions for governance
  • Auto-scaling — agent cycles never queue or skip due to resource limits
  • Marketplace hiring — deploy fully managed teams from other creators with a single click
